May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him,
so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Ensconced Downstairs

Carol asked me to give you all a quick update on what is happening with her...don't you love how Carol's heart is still, even at this point in her illness, thinking of all of us?

She wants you to know that her spirits are great!...even if her body is not. Carol has totally moved in downstairs setting up base in their family room. She has a hospital bed that is fairly high...I just talked with her over the phone (I'm in Colorado) and she is so happy to be able to lay in bed and see the birds out her windows making active use of the bird feeders in her backyard! As many of you know Carol is an ardent "bird watcher."

Because of the very low platelet levels in her blood Carol is feeling extremely fatigued physically. She is needing to have someone with her 24/7 now because of the risk of falling in navigating even the small step up from the family room into the kitchen area. She is also sleeping a lot of the day, but still does have an appetite and is enjoying her meals.

As I mentioned in the last update, Carol does so enjoy your visits, but they must be kept very short because her total energy levels are decreasing each day. She also needs some time to recoup between visits so it would be very helpful to have each visit scheduled so she doesn't have ten visitors all at once on one day and none the next! Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness in scheduling your visits through Cathy and/or Sharon...and please do call ahead before coming in case Carol is sleeping or just not feeling quite "up" enough to visit at that time. Carol's health status is changing quickly so "flexibility" is the key word at the moment.

Mark and Carol again want to thank you for all your prayers and support now and in the last few months...the journey has been difficult, but made much easier because of your gracious gifts of service to them.

May the words of Psalm 3:3-4 bless you today too as they have sustained Carol in the last days, weeks and months:

But you, God, shield me on all sides;
You ground my feet, you lift my head high;
With all my might I shout up to God,
His answers thunder from the holy mountain.

"I will lift up my eyes to the mountains
From where shall my help come?
My help comes from the Lord
Who made the heavens and the earth
He will not allow your foot to slip
He who keeps you will not slumber
Behold, He who keeps Israel
Will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord is YOUR keeper
The Lord is YOUR shade on YOUR right hand
The sun will not smite you by day
Nor the moon by night
The Lord will protect you from all evil
He will keep your soul
The Lord will guard your going out and your coming in
From this time forth and forever"
Ps 121.

Dear Carol,
I love looking out my window to the mountains and I fondly remember this verse often. I know as you look out your window at your little birdies, you fondly think of the Lord who made each one of them.
May He who made the mountains and the birds give you grace and comfort today and peace in your heart.
Much love and lots of hugs,
donna penna justice

"Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

Dear Carol,

I was driving home on a long and beautiful stretch of HWY 101 this afternoon when a Bald Eagle swooped out of the treetops and into my view ever so briefly. I instantly thought about how you'd marvel at the sight!

Blessings and much love sent your way from the Washington bird watchers.

Hi Carol,
How is the view from the top of Everest? You've got your oxygen and your sherpa's are praying for you from base camp. I bet the view is gorgeous and sunny and so so beautiful. What a place to worship!
I love you so,
Tania

Dear Carol,
this is regina's friend catherine, that met you & your wonderful husband at the Valley Pregnancy banquet last year. I just wanted to let you know that reading here (over the past year) about your struggle with cancer and your awesome faith in God that has pulled you up your mountain, has really been an inspiration and a fierce motivator for me to do the same when faced with my own much smaller issues in life. i pray you have much joy in this time from having your family and loving friends all around you, and peace and no pain. The Lord truly does keep your soul and will guard your going out. thank you for being such a wonderful person!
love in Christ,

Dearest Carol:

You will forever convey to me a spunkiness that is contagious... a heart that is so deeply devoted to the Lord...a will to thrive and fight that surpasses the toughest physical trials...a love for any and all who have needed to be lifted up, encouraged, listened to, forgiven, appreciated,
accepted...
I have cherished the walks we have shared in the past, the choirs we have sung in, the women's retreats we "skitted" in, the honesty we have shared together...the list goes on...The Lord did not skimp on gifts when it was Carol's turn...you are truly a remarkable woman and my prayer is that God gives you a large dose of comfort and peace as you ponder his wonderful creation...I know He is
well pleased with His Carol.

I Love You...Joanne (Meyers)
